Has the World Gone Scandi Silly?

I’m writing this post because John Lewis have dropped another email in my inbox about their “Scandi” Home Design Trend and I thought once and for all let’s address the situation, (and perhaps celebrate it?..)
The trend has been lapping at our shores for a couple of years now, slowly seeping in through uber cool fashion bloggers, home and interiors magazines and of course Pinterest is going potty over it.
Yet in a way we’ve always had a taste on our tongue via the solutions-to-everything giant; IKEA. But what about the more niche scandi? the cool scandi, what does it really involve and can everyone have a little piece in their homes and wardrobes?

Dictionaries define it as a shortened form of relating to the people and languages of Scandinavia. Surprisingly Urban Dictionary’s pretty slow on the wagon, so let’s just go with the John Lewis description:

This cool, calm look takes its inspiration from a pared-back, Scandinavian approach to style. Great craftsmanship and cleverly engineered details pervade every corner of this practical, yet elegant, aesthetic. Simple shapes, natural materials and confident colours evoke a feel that is both uncluttered and comfortable.

Pretty spot on, non? The adjectives can be applied to the fashion style trend also. Let’s have a look at what’s going down on the highstreet:

This lil link will take you from achieving the style from the living room through to the bedroom on a budget.

After enjoying researching for this blog post very much, I think it’s safe to say I am a fan of the Scandi trend. I love the clean colours and fuss free geometric shapes. It’s one of those styles that can be slotted effortlessly into your home, without having to go the whole hog if clashing prints and bright colours are still your thing. I personally adore the rich walnut hues in the wooden furniture, the simple lighting designs and every shade of grey and blue going!

Do you have Scandinavian inspired interiors in your home? What are you favourite picks?
